In 1999 I saw a 1969 Lotus Elan in town that was for sale local to home. It was cheapenough I could afford it and I soon found out why...
I took a mechanic friend with me to go look at it and it was quite sad. It was a basket case that someone had started a restoration on and neve completed. It looked so bad I was dissappointed until my friend pointed out the chassis was excellent as was the suspension. Well I bought it thinking I had a lot of work to do.
Here is how the front looked when I brought it home:
The rear wasn't much better:
Nor was the dash:
Well I proceeded to take her apart
and I rebuilt every part except for the temp/oil gauge which I just
replaced.
18 months later and a lot more money than I had planned she was back on the road and looking pretty.
Since then she has had lots of fun at autocrosses
